Lesser Known Shredders That Deserve More Recognition

By Andrew Catania

We get many emails from aspiring guitarists to have us listen to their music and want us to review it.  Most are talented in their own right, others still have some work to do, and others catch your ear.  I picked a few out of the many aspiring shredders that I like who deserve more recognition.  This will be an ongoing series to highlight the best of the best in our humble opinion.  This list is in no particular order.

Gunnar DüGrey – Vicious Rumors/Chronological Injustice

19-year-old Gunnar has done some impressive stuff in his short time.  He started writing songs for his Chronological Injustice band at 11 years old.  This band was opening for major acts in the northwest such as Dark Angel, Metal Church, etc.  Gunnar is currently playing with the Bay Area Legends Vicious Rumors.

With his Endorsement from Dean Guitars, Gunnar chooses Rusty Cooley’s RC7 as his main axe.

Gunnar will be in the studio with Vicious Rumors over the winter recording the follow up to there 2016 release of Concussion Protocol.  To learn more about Gunnar, please visit his following pages:

Bill Visser – Psychoprism

Another Rusty Cooley protege using the RC7, Bill Visser has the speed, feel, and technique to catch my eye.  His band Psychoprism is a hard-hitting metal band out of the New York area.

With Impellitteri like speed and Rusty Cooley type riffs, Bill is sure to catch many people’s attention in the future.  To learn more about Psychoprism, please visit their Facebook page:

Gregg Livesay – Livesay

It disgusts me that Gregg hasn’t gotten the proper exposure throughout his career.  Gregg’s been around for over 30 years.  His band Livesay has recently been signed to RFL Records, and the label has been giving Gregg the proper promotion he should have.  With his neo-classical shredding skills, Gregg is someone you should listen and get to know.

Jack Kosto – Seven Spires

All I can say is Jack is a fucking beast on the guitar!  All you need to do is check out his band Seven Spires, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

This Berklee graduate can shred the shit out of a guitar!  Check out our write up on Jack here

Melia

I found Melia through our Reverbnation campaign last year.  Melia has a substantial following and draws good-sized crowds to her headlining concerts and has opened for major acts like Halestorm.

You can check Melia out on her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MeliaRocks/

Elmo Karjalainen

With his goofy personality, this Finnish shredder means business when he put that guitar in his hands. The former Guitar Gods Contestant has excellent tone, feel phrasing, and all around kick-ass vibrato.

Elmo has an active YouTube, Instagram and Facebook page.  You can check him out at https://www.facebook.com/elmojk/

Shani Kimelman

Recent Berklee graduate Shani Kimelman just finished up a tour with Guns N Roses cover band Paradise Kitty.  Shani has a large YouTube following, and her career is about to explode on the scene!

You can check Shani out at https://www.facebook.com/shani.kimelman/

Please support these artists as they are shredders that deserve more recognition!
