“AS A GUITARIST MYSELF, MY MISSION IS TO DESIGN, BUILD AND MANUFACTURE THE ABSOLUTE BEST QUALITY PERFORMANCE GUITAR FOR MUSICIANS.”
Kennon Yi (Founder, Legator Guitars)
Established in 2012, Legator Guitars was founded in Southern California with a mission to create the most beautiful instruments for musicians by musicians. Legator is a technology-based guitar company. Their goal is to take customer feedback and pair it with the best technology available. They design and build there own hardware, even custom pickups. Each piece of hardware is made and tooled exclusively for each of there Legator products. No other guitar maker does this.
With such a sweet sound and so many options to choose from, it can be hard to pick which guitar is right for you. Legator produces four guitar series, each with different offerings and price points. The Opus and Helio Series offers a classic sound and the most affordable models. The Ninja Series is designed for hard rock, while guitars in the Signature Series fall on the higher end of the spectrum. Each series is marked by specialized hardware, custom pickups, and the best materials available.
Multiscale (also known as fan fret) guitars are gaining popularity, and the demand for them has grown. Legator has risen to meet that need, and they offer inexpensive alternatives that are of the highest quality craftsmanship.
I picked up the 2018 Opus Tradition 200-SE and was pleasantly surprised. I plugged in and played it and it was perfect for my fingerstyle playing (Jeff Beck /Ritchie Kotzen). It felt creamy, and the bounce and fluidness were perfect. The handcrafted quality is beyond their price tag. They are surprising within just about anyone’s budget. The lower prices do not equate to lower quality. This is another great guitar/bass manufacturer that all should check out.
Here is a short list of various artists that use Legator guitars and basses exclusively. Matt Bachand:
