Berklee Student Joel Kent Releases “Ghost Ship”

Joel’s music is a combination of styles centered around emotional guitar melodies. With a varied background in rock, metal, jazz, acoustic, and R&B styles, Joel incorporates a multitude of playing
and production techniques into his creativity. Over the last few years, Joel has had the privilege of working with many talented individuals as a guitarist and producer across a variety of genres, In 2017, Joel performed in Jon Finn’s Berklee GuitarNight concert, the footage from which awarded Joel third place in Lee Ritenour’s Six String Theory Competition.

A massive fan of video-game music, Joel has released two Legend of Zelda remix EPs through record label Materia Collective: Octorock: The Zelda Metal EP, and Helmarock: Zelda Metal Vol. II. Joel’s recent solo EP Ghost Ship ventures into various musical territories designed to take the listener through a narrative. The album’s evolving emotions ensure that a listen-through of this
record is a trip for progressive music fans.

Born and raised in the North West of England, Joel began playing music aged 7. After a couple of years of violin lessons, Joel took up the guitar and spent every free moment playing rock, blues, metal, jazz, and classical styles. After passing ABRSM Grade Eight in classical guitar aged 14, Joel began his professional experience playing
rock gigs in pubs across the North West, along with studying theory, composition, and production.

In 2013, Joel moved to Liverpool to study classical guitar at the University of Liverpool. Over the following couple of years, Joel’s professional experience in the industry involved weekly function gigs, demoing amps for VOX Amplification, and performing/recording with a variety of local artists and bands. After completing a diploma in classical music at the University of Liverpool, Joel released his debut album Weird Space before flying out to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. While at Berklee, Joel has had the privilege of working with many talented individuals as a guitarist, including Charlie Rosen, Alice Grace, How to Drown a Fish, insaneintherainmusic, Gracie
Patitucci, SŌMA, Stin, and Oliver Price. Cassidy Guitars endorse Joel.
